Toyota Safety Sense is a suite of active safety technologies and advanced driver assistance systems designed to prevent or mitigate accidents involving vehicles. First introduced for the 2015 model year, Toyota Safety Sense™ was made standard across the Toyota model lineup for the 2018 model year. Through several iterations, TSS has evolved from a first generation pre-collision radar only system to one that includes pre-collision data, vehicle history and pre-collision photos from the vehicle’s camera.
Beginning with the model year 2023, specific Toyota models come equipped with Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 3.0 hardware and software. Depending on the specific Toyota model, TSS 3.0 includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, dynamic radar cruise control and other features.
The vehicle’s pre-collision safety (PCS) data and vehicle control history can be downloaded using Toyota Techstream GTS+ software. The vehicle history report can include such events as sudden turning, sudden braking, accelerator pedal opening, etc. The report not only provides 5.0 seconds of pre-event data but also provides 5.0 seconds of post-event data.
Crash Response LLC has the ability to download this data as well as the pre-collision photos recorded by the vehicle’s camera. Double the amount of data recording time, plus many additional data parameters assists with understanding how and why the collision occurred. The photos provide a perspective that was otherwise unavailable.
